About the event

I am currently enrolled as a full-time Manual Osteopathic Therapist student at the Manual Osteopathic College of Canada.  I am offering donation-based bookings at my private clinic to expand my hands-on practical experience as a MOT student. This will run until August 2024. After graduation, my Manual Osteopathic services will be covered by most health insurance companies in AB, BC & Sask; however, direct billing is not currently available in AB.

Have You heard of Osteopathy?

Manual Osteopathic Therapy is a cutting edge, holistic, body-based manual practice. Through extensive training and continuing education, practitioners gain a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy and physiology. The MOT is trained to apply skilled palpation for thorough assessment and utlization of specialized therapies. Then primary focus of MOT is to restore Structure and Functioning of the whole system. Manual Osteopathic treatments are very gentle and calming; eliminating pain and dis-Ease patterns through activation of the parasympathetic nervous system and by addressing the root cause of the imbalance, injury or illness.

A Manual Osteopathic Practitioner is trained in five main types of hands-on Osteopathic sub-disciplines:

  • Osteoarticular Adjustments,
  • Advanced Myofascial Remodeling,
  • Craniosacral Therapy,
  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage and,
  • Visceral Manipulation.

Osteoarticular Adjustments may sound familiar as these are techniques utilized in professions such as Physiotherapy and Chiropractic; however in MOT, they are significantly are less invasive and very low risk to the client. In practice, I mainly use OA skills to read and assess the clients structural imbalances (bones) and functional posture patterns.

Advanced Myofascial Remodeling targets the client's fascial adhesions, surgical/wound scarring and tension patterns that could be playing a role in their structural misalignments and health issues. It is a very gentle technique and nothing like the pressure you may have previously experienced with massage therapists during myofascial massage.

Visceral Manipulation is applied to assess and treat the viscera (organs), their position, suspension system and fascia from which they directly attach to the musculoskeletal system.  Imbalances in the viscera and its connective tissue can be directly related to postural imbalances and can impact many systems such as the musculoskeletal, nervous, vascular, respiratory, endocrine and digestive systems.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage, is a gentle technique that works through the body's interstitial and lymphatic system to activate the body's liquid circulation and stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems.

The Craniosacral system consists of the bones of the head and spinal cord; as well as, the membranes and fluid that surround and support the brain and spinal cord.  Dysfunction of any part of this system could have local effects such as head, jaw and neck aches, migraines or pain along the spine from the neck to the low back.  We also see nervous system dysregulation and changes in mood and the capacity to cope with stressors; as well as, nerve impingement or end organ dysfunction such as digestive, respiratory or pelvic floor complaints.
